Art Exhibits:

watercolors exhibit by ann jones

Ann Jones began painting in watercolor in the new millennium, seduced and challenged by both its delicacy and power.

Landscapes are the subject of choice. She enjoys working en plain air whenever possible, savoring the luminosity of the landscape and struggling to capture the light before it (all too quickly) changes. Among her favorite locations for sketching and painting are the Merrimack Valley, the North Shore, and the Atlantic seacoast. Painting favorite places enables her to see them fresh and cherish them anew. She likes to record her travels in watercolor as well, and has painted in England and Nova Scotia and Egypt. During the winter months when working on location is difficult, her focus is on interiors, figures and still lifes.

Inspiration is everywhere! - especially in the work of John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, Paul W. McCormack, Thomas S. Buechner, Don Andrews, Jeanne Dobie, and Soon Y. Warren.

Although self-taught through reading and experimentation, she has participated in workshops with Don Andrews who taught her much about color and values. She's been involved in several figure study groups, currently the Newburyport and Haverhill Sketch Groups.  She is a member of the Newburyport Art Association, the Greater Haverhill Art Association, NH Plein Artists, and online at pleinairartists.ning.com and studioartists.ning.com.

Ann Jones resides in Groveland and her work can be seen at annjonesart.net and she can be contacted at art.annjones@yahoo.com

This exhibit runs through the end of June.
